Artist and visionary Marina Abramović launches The Marina Abramović Longevity Method

World leading performance artist Marina Abramović is launching The Marina Abramović Longevity Method to help people achieve their desire to live in the present, long and healthily.

Over the course of Marina Abramović’s entire 55-year career, she has made it her life’s mission to push the boundaries of performance art and the limits of the human body. The timing could not be more auspicious. As the nation prepares for next month’s Coronation of King Charles III, a unique piece of jewellery is about to come onto the market that, if it could speak, would undoubtedly tell a few royal tales of its own.

The jewel in question is a magnificent antique diamond and emerald dragonfly brooch set with two Colombian emerald briolettes weighing approximately 25cts that can be detached to make a pair of earrings.

This will be the first time in its storied history that the brooch will go on sale at Mayfair’s oldest family jewellers, Hancocks London, for £350,000 (US $440,000).

The brooch was commissioned by the 5th Countess of Rosse, Frances Lois Parsons, to wear at the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on June 22, 1911.

The countess gave the Crown Jewellers Garrard & Co. a pair of emerald briolette drops from a pair of existing earrings – part of the Rosse family emerald parure (a set of jewels intended to be worn together), to use as part of the commission.

Guy Burton, Managing Director, Hancocks London, comments:

“The handwritten note that is pinned inside this original brooch box tells us that the dragonfly was designed by her father, Sir Cecil Lister Kaye, 4th Baronet making it not only a historic jewel but also a truly sentimental one.”

At the time of the 5th Countess of Rosse’s commission, Garrard would have been very busy making sure all the coronation jewels and regalia were cleaned and polished and looking their very best. The Mayfair-based jewellers to the great and the good had also been issued with a hugely important commission from Queen Mary, that of creating a crown for her to wear at the coronation.

Now known as Queen Mary’s Crown, this is the crown that will be worn by Queen consort Camilla at the up-coming coronation of King Charles III.

A coronation is a state occasion steeped in history and tradition and the jewels worn by the Peeresses to accompany their formal coronation robes reflect this. Parures of historic family jewels passed down through generations were de rigueur, topped off with the most important tiara each Peeress owned.

Guy Burton comments:

“The dragonfly brooch flew in the face of traditional formal jewellery at the time. To have a new jewel commissioned for such an occasion, particularly one of this size and design, was unusual and would certainly have made a significant impact and a real statement.

“The rich green emeralds no doubt proved a vibrant contrast to the deep red of the coronation robes and complimented the emerald necklace and tiara that Frances wore.”

Set throughout with old cut diamonds, the dragonfly’s lower wings are embellished with a single round emerald and upper wings with the emerald briolettes originally supplied by the countess, the wings are set ‘en tremblant’ so flutter delicately as the wearer moves, allowing the gemstones to catch the light beautifully.

These briolettes detach to form a pair of drop earrings making the brooch the ultimate versatile jewel to have in a collection today.

The full parure, including the briolettes in their earring settings, was worn to the next coronation, that of King George VI in 1937, by Frances’s daughter-in-law Anne Parsons.

Anne had previously been married to Ronald Armstrong-Jones with whom she had two children, Anthony and Susan. However, wedded bliss escaped Anne and Ronald and they divorced in 1934. The following year Anne married Frances’s son Michael, 6th Earl of Rosse thereby becoming 6th Countess of Rosse on her wedding day.

Anne would go on to wear the emerald jewels again in 1953 at the coronation of our late Queen Elizabeth II, meaning these emerald briolettes have been present at three of the 20th century’s four coronations.

Furthermore, in 1960 Anne’s eldest son, Anthony Armstrong-Jones, married HRH Princess Margaret and Anne wore the full Rosse parure, including the emerald briolettes in their original earrings, to the wedding celebration ball at Buckingham Palace.

Guy Burton adds:

“The dragonfly brooch was a favourite jewel of Countess Rosse, she wore the brooch regularly, along with the other pieces of the parure. Images of her wearing the dragonfly show it on evening dresses, cocktail dresses and coats, this was a woman with a passion for both jewellery and fashion.”

“It is thanks to her that we know the details regarding the commissioning of this piece. She made careful handwritten notes on the provenance of the Rosse jewels, often on her calling cards, which she pinned inside the boxes of significant pieces.”

“It is a truly spectacular jewel and would have attracted many an admiring glance, the tremblant setting causing it to quiver and catch the light with every movement she made.”

“We are honoured to be offering this remarkable jewel for sale and wouldn’t it be wonderful for it to be snapped up and worn by one of the 1,000 guests at the Westminster Abbey ceremony on May 6? It would be back in its familiar surroundings and in extremely good company.”

The single pin brooch comes in the original Garrard box and is priced at £350,000 US $440,000*.

April 2023: Jo Hansford MBE is preparing to celebrate a landmark anniversary: 30 years since the opening of her first salon in Mayfair, London.

From begging the bank for a loan to start her business to becoming the colourist of choice for the Queen, Jo Hansford has proved to those who originally dismissed her with snippy comments that hair is big business.

The team has been working for nearly a year on research and development of its new collections to honour the milestone, creating a range of new product that tells the Robinson Pelham story.

New Collections

Entwined rings are a limited-edition capsule set featuring two beautiful, geometric rings with overlapping surrounds, one in carre diamonds with rainbow sapphires, and the other in carre diamonds and gold, with a central elongated hexagon diamondcenter stone. The surrounds are not the afterthought, they are the main event, and symbolise a union of two – inspiration was sourced following a bespoke engagement design. Prices start from £14,500.

Labyrinth focuses on a journey of positivity, for those starting out in life and aiming high, and also for those who want to celebrate reaching a significant goal in life.

The collection of rings and pendants feature a physical maze whose path and central point is depicted in gemstones. Shapes include hexagon, round and heart, with accents of diamonds, pink sapphires and tsavorites. The rings are curved for maximum comfort and can be worn on the forefinger amongst others; the pendants are flat and sized to be worn between 15-inch and 24-inch. Each piece is engraved with “Find Your Way”, with the ring or pendant acting as a talisman or a guide to help you achieve this. Prices start from £3,770.

Love Is All Around encapsulates Robinson Pelham’s belief that jewellery is all about meaning; hidden or obvious, taken to the literal edge. Its first iteration, “I Love You” is translated as Eye Love U, marquise (eye shaped) heart (love) half-moon (U shaped). Pieces will be made in diamond as well as the brand’s iconic rainbow colouration, and in sizing small and large. Prices start from £4,770.

Zouk takes inspiration from the shapes of round acoustic sound waves and means an exuberant style of Caribbean music with a fast beat. The concentric earrings come in two sizes and can be worn with a central plain or stone set stud or earrings from the Stud Club collection to make them yet another versatile jewel from Robinson Pelham. Available in diamond and yellow gold and also rainbow. Prices start from £3,840.

New additions to existing collections

Vega. It’s the perfect cocktail ring, not too big, not too small but definitely a statement ring that has plenty of attitude. The collection is enhanced with two new rings: Turquoise & Diamond and Gold bobble & Diamond. Prices from £3,840 in 14ct yellow gold or £4,440 in 18ct yellow gold.

Synchronicity, a concept that seamlessly unites two ring components, has been revamped to include two new outer rings (Byzantine and Rainbow Ray) and a new inner ring to tie in with the ‘Love Is All Around’ collection. Each outer can be worn with each inner so that the combinations go on almost endlessly. This ring is about colour, scale and versatility, three of the brand’s favorite mantras. Price from £2,650.

Arena is one of Robinson Pelham’s currently bestselling collections; featuring eyepopping gemstones with contrasting pavé surround, it has been edited to include a simple band of stunning ceramic colour that complements the center stone (morganite, yellow beryl, lilac amethyst and blue topaz). Price from £3,650.

The Muzo Emerald Colombia collection is expanded with the Muzo Arena ring, a juxtaposition of vivid emerald and bright green enamel. The ring is crafted in 18K yellow gold with a surround of pave diamonds. This mix of emerald/diamond and enamel brings an informality to the silhouette, a signature of Robinson Pelham. Disco Sister new hoop earrings will be added to the bestselling collection which are the little sisters to the brand’s original Disco hoops. Now seen in blue sapphire and diamond, brown diamond and white diamond, as well as the original colours of pink sapphire, tsavorite, yellow sapphire, diamond in white gold, diamond in yellow gold and the most popular of all – rainbow sapphires and tsavorites with scattered diamonds. Robinson Pelham’s wildly popular Fortune Heart collection has been extended by adding tsavorite, yellow sapphire, blue topaz and ruby to join the existing colours of blue sapphire, pink sapphire, diamond in white gold, diamond in yellow gold and rainbow (set with rainbow sapphires and tsavorites). These hearts are slightly concave and the stones chosen to be slightly darker towards the center to enhance the illusion of depth. Prices from £3,480.

Abacus rondels are versatile and precious little pieces: fully stone-set beads that can be worn as a pendant or bracelet, from hoop earrings or on the Mono bracelets, assorted gemstone accents to Murano glass beads. Prices from £2,420.

Strike are Robinson Pelham’s largest ear statement earrings harking back to the 1980s. They are unapologetic and hugely flattering as the gem set central Strike angles down to create extra cheekbones. Prices from £5,900.

Iconic Identity – Robinson Pelham’s iconic Identity collection has another cool new addition: enamel Identity bars available in four colour
pops: Pale Blue, Pale Pink, Hot Pink and Yellow.

The bar features a discreet hook, enabling the wearer to attach a wider variety of Robinson Pelham pendants or EarWish, ranging from a simple gold heart to a striking turquoise cascade pendant set with four marquise, oval and pear shape turquoise cabochons. January 2022: The UK’s leading hair and colour salon Jo Hansford Harvey Nichols is offering clients a chance to update their look in 2022 with a range of new services launching this month.

These include a Jo Hansford Hair History Colour Consultation, the chance to have a full (hair) MOT including a Hair & Scalp check up, Haircials, Split End SOS treatment and, continuing the trend of Veganuary, vegan tints and vegan hair colour.

The new services will also be offered alongside the salon’s range of expert colour and styling services.

1. Jo Hansford Hair History Analysis:

This involves one of Jo Hansford’s expert colourists reviewing a client’s colour, a detailed discussion in relation to the full history of the hair colour and an analysis of the hair shaft.

The hour-and-a-half long session also includes a wet porosity test to assess condition and from this, the Jo Hansford colourist will be able to see whether a client’s hair can withstand the colour requested and how easy it will be to create the desired result.

“We often have clients who believe they have no colour on their hair as they had something done years ago which would have washed or faded out or was a semi-permanent. However, these products can often stay on the hair longer than you may think and the hair will need more attention to detail when colouring to get the perfect look.”

The consultation will include expert colour recommendation and utilise actual hair pieces which will be held next to a client’s face so they can see how the colour would look next to their skin tone. The colourist will also share inspiration and suggestions via a number of sources including the salon’s specially programmed ipads and style and colour books. For the truly bespoke look, there will be an opportunity to create a client’s own pin/mood board of images.

2. Trichological MOT: The Hair and Scalp Health Check-up

Jo Hansford’s Knightsbridge salon, which is located on the Fourth Floor of Harvey Nichols, is proud to partner with one of the world’s leading trichologists, Dr Hugh Rushton of The Rushton Clinic. As part of Dr Rushton’s in-salon consultancy services, he and his team will be offering Jo Hansford clients The Trichological MOT: The Hair and Scalp Health Check-up.

What is it? Using high magnification digital video and photo technology, this detailed check-up service thoroughly assesses all aspects of your hair and scalp’s health.

Why is it useful? Dr Hugh Rushton comments

“Regular checking of your hair and scalp can be vital for numerous reasons. The importance of a regular assessment of our skin, particularly in the areas that are difficult to see ourselves, cannot be understated. Spotting any changes early provides the best opportunity to ensure we receive potentially lifesaving medical intervention without delay.”

But a Hair and Scalp Check-up does not stop at just looking for abnormal lumps and bumps. It offers a chance to assess and monitor many common ailments, such as dandruff, inflammation, and hair loss. Objective assessment by magnified video and photo technology will help accurately manage and track the improvement of these stubborn conditions. 3. Haircial

Jo Hansford’s signature Haircial for 2022 will encompass the Kerastase Fusion Scrub, a range developed to deeply cleanse the scalp and the hair from pollution particles. It is a new, efficient way to answer today’s main hair concerns: greasy scalp, dandruff and lifeless lengths. This not only cleanses the scalp but will result in healthier-looking, bouncy and shiny hair.

How it works: Clients are given the choice of two scrubs: ‘Apaisant’ that will soothe the scalp or ‘Energisant’ to energise and volumise the hair. Next steps is an application of Jo Hansford Intensive Masque which will be left on the hair with a warm towel wrapped around it for 10 minutes. This will renourish and moisturise hair that has been left frazzled by too much styling, straightening and tonging in the run up to Christmas. The haircial works to repair the hair, quenched with an innovative infusion of moisturising and strengthening ingredients.

Hair will then be trimmed to remove any split or dead ends to ensure it is looking its ultimate best for the New Year ahead.

4. Veganuary – go vegan – with vegan hair colour too…

Jo Hansford Harvey Nichols also offers its clients the option to have vegan colour. The specialist colourist uses Oway products, both for colouring and care. These are the first and only professional hair care and colour line made with biodynamic (and organic, fair trade and non-toxic) ingredients. The high performance colour comes in packaging that is fully recyclable materials.

Bridget Kearney who specialises in vegan colour at Jo Hansford Harvey Nichols comments:

5. Jo Hansford Split End Treatment

Jo Hansford Split End Solution is a keratin hair-repairing treatment that coats the ends of the hair to nourish and seal them.

The treatment smoothes and soothes hair that has been damaged from too much sun, sea or hair straightening, leaving it shiny, sleek and in optimum condition for hair growth. It is perfect for anyone who wants to grow their hair, but split ends mean they have to forgo this to have frequent trims. With two formulas for coloured and non-coloured hair, those with tinted or highlighted hair can also book in safe in the knowledge that the treatment will not strip or dull just-coloured hair.

The application process involves three shampoos with a clarifying shampoo to take the moisture out of the hair, rough-drying, plenty of keratin applied on the hair, 20 minutes under the lamp and straightening to finish.

Thornbury Castle, built in 1511 during the reign of Henry VIII, was one of the grandest buildings of its time in England. It has been the home of kings, queens and dukes over the centuries before becoming a luxury hotel in 1966 and recently re-opened its doors once again to guests following its multi-million pound refurbishment.

Located near Bristol and overlooking the Gloucestershire countryside, Thornbury Castle is the only Tudor castle in the UK which operates as a hotel and restaurant.

2021 saw a new chapter in the Castle’s rich history as Thornbury Castle became a member of the Relais & Châteaux collection.

Channeling 1530s grandeur with 2020s splendour, guests can experience Tudor opulence in total luxury during a stay at Thornbury Castle.

Following the recent refurbishment, the Castle’s 26 bedchambers and suites have been carefully restored as interiors are sensitively reimagined with historical fineries and contemporary luxuries.

Thornbury Castle’s Executive Chef Carl Cleghorn brings a wealth of culinary experience to the Castle, having worked in a number of the UK’s top hotels and with some of the UK’s leading Michelin star chefs. He prides himself on using the very best seasonal and local ingredients from the Castle’s kitchen and herb garden and showcasing the best of British to create a memorable dining experience for guests.

Food served includes breakfast, lunch, an all-day dining menu, afternoon tea and a la carte dinner and Carl Cleghorn and his team will also provide bespoke menus for events such as weddings and corporate events.
