Q&A with Creative Director Vanessa Chilton

3. How long did it take for you to get the design right? Were there any technical challenges in crafting them?

The length of the detachable drop was crucial. Too short and it doesn’t make an impact, too long and some people are intimidated. The length needed to be a universal “one size fits all” while still providing the wow factor. We designed several prototypes, found the sweet spot, and tested them – like we do with all our pieces – by having the team wear them to see how they felt and moved in real life. This is critical, as the section where the earring slides onto the post of the stud is articulated so that the earrings can swing freely. If not articulated, the earrings would be too rigid when worn.

5. What kind of woman did you have in mind when designing them?

The beauty of the Tsar Star collection lies in its versatility. Worn as a stud, the star’s clean, architectural lines feel modern and effortless, taking you seamlessly from day to night. With the addition of the drop, it transforms, adding a sense of power, boldness, and energy, into a true statement jewel. Designed to flatter every face shape, Tsar Stars radiate a striking elegance that feels both refined and contemporary.

6. They are becoming an iconic piece given they have been worn by HRH The Princess of Wales and others. How did you feel when you saw them being worn at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere?

It was a big moment for us seeing Robinson Pelham Tsar Stars on such a style icon. She looked incredible.

7. Celine Dion is the latest icon to wear Tsar Stars in the new Charlotte Tilbury holiday campaign. Discuss.

This is one of Robinson Pelham’s iconic moments for this year for sure. It’s a wonderful coming together of Charlotte Tilbury and Robinson Pelham – two British brands spearheaded by women.

Seeing the pictures for the first time was a ‘wow’ moment. In fact, the whole team were blown away…….we should have videoed their reactions! Don’t you think they look perfect on her? They are so Celine Dion and work so well with the campaign which is incredible. We also think it’s refreshing that Celine Dion and the talented styling team are supporting independent jewellers.

9. What’s next for Tsar Stars?

This October, we will be relaunching the pink sapphire Tsar Stars in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month . This year, we are proud to partner with both The Pink Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation – charities close to our hearts. For us, it’s about more than jewellery, it’s about celebrating strength, raising awareness, and supporting their invaluable work.

Q&A with Creative Director Vanessa Chilton

When did you first conceive the Identity collection?

The first design was sketched in 2014, two years after we opened our flagship store in Chelsea, London. We struck gold, literally and figuratively, with our first prototype. It looked beautiful, felt incredible to wear, and moved with the wearer in an elegant, effortless way.

We always wanted to create a statement gold necklace that still offered versatility, which is very much at the heart of Robinson Pelham’s design DNA, and Identity hits the spot.

Why do you think Identity has become so iconic?

Its bold yet elegant design has a timeless quality that resonates with clients.  It’s a modern heirloom.  Things really took off when Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted wearing it; she loved it so much she requested to stock it online and in GOOP stores, which was a huge moment for us.

How has the collection’s appeal widened?

Following the introduction of Identity in 9ct and 18ct white gold, we noticed increasing interest from men. The necklace and bracelet designs began to resonate with a male audience, particularly because of the customisable lengths. It has  opened an exciting new market for us.

June 2024: There’s nothing these two don’t know about Glastonbury. Robinson Pelham co-founder Vanessa Chilton has been a regular attendee since 2004, and stylist Rachel Fanconi made waves last year with her incredible styling and on-point outfits for the one and only Jo Whiley.

Rachel is in the midst of getting Jo’s looks ready for this year’s festival later this month too, but we managed to quiz Rachel and Nessie on their festival dos and don’ts. Whether it’s going to be wet and soggy or wall-to-wall sunshine, the music will play, and the fashion moments will be embraced.
Be it feathers, glitter and sequins, or the current on-trend cowboy look, jewellery elevates an outfit and can take you from day to night without worrying about storing items.

Vanessa and Rachel share their advice, top tips, and select the go to Robinson Pelham pieces to add sparkle and fun this festival season.

1. Jewellery – The Festival Edit

• A stack of Robinson Pelham Spinner rings and Constellation bracelets, tap into the current trend for all things personalised and astrological and would add the perfect finishing touch to any nouveau boho look.
• A cool curation of EarWishes and WishBacks are the easiest way to switch your look from rock n roll to hippy bliss – my personal choice would be a little bit country, a little bit rock n roll – an homage to summers of old. • My top pieces for Glasto (and any other festival this summer) include an entire ear stack of goodies from the EarMenu. This year, they will include feather and crossbones Wishback, turquoise Wishdishes 
• and Spock (pear shape studs in bright enamel set with diamond pear shapes) with Orb hoops and EarWishes including the dragonfly, short feathers, long feathers, Starry Night and Third Eye Ray.
• I also like to have a couple of necklaces too – short and long. Length is key as I always wear a bum bag slung over one shoulder across the body and filled with essentials. I like to wear jewellery that you can keep on day and night.
• This year, I’m planning to wear my Robinson Pelham North Star pendant and layer it with my Fortune Heart pendant around my neck with varying lengths of Utopia for colour.
• Identity necklace with a Rainbow Bar sometimes makes an appearance. One of my friends has this necklace and she wears it every Glastonbury without fail.

2. Stylist’s secrets for pulling off the perfect festival look

• Be comfortable obviously.
• Layer: don’t be tricked into thinking you won’t need a warm layer. Make sure you have some cashmere and a trusty waterproof jacket try Marfa Stance or Colin Horgan.
• Add some sparkle that you can wear with everything for instant elevation – Robinson Pelham is perfect for this!
• Also, for boho glam dresses that you roll up and stuff in a backpack, try Hansine and Farm Rio
• Brilliant architectural pieces by Karina Bond and Chet Lo can be scrunched in a ball and still retain their shape.
• An upcycled jacket from Mrs Lang @mrslang  (located in Deal) would be a practical choice but also guaranteed to sprinkle a bit of festival magic!
• Bring a combat trouser. Zara have some great wide leg options or just root a pair of Maharishis out of the attic (also on Vestiaire from about £115 upwards).
• A hat is always a must and this year’s Glastonbury will be a sea of cowboys. Up your game with Austin from or Free People’s Fame style in straw.
• Cowboy boots (naturally) will be unavoidable. Best from Terry de Havilland, Penelope Chilvers or offthehooklondon.com but don’t forget socks and stylist’s favourite Compeed blister plasters.
• Trainers…….comfort is queen, head to Flower Mountain, Sole Bliss, Wushu or Salomon.
• It could be a wellies year – better safe than sorry! Burberry’s sturdy rubber boots (priced at £650 and selling out fast on Net-a-Porter) will see you through anything. Alternatively, the Ugg see-through Drizlita style, now reduced to £41.99 on Ugg.com, offers a touch of full fashion madness, and you can show off your pedi at the same time!
• Tabitha Webb’s slogan tops feel like a must for this one.

Vanessa Chilton packing essentials

• I always pack one of those big, recycled zip bags stuffed with clothes for every eventuality. Jackets, dresses, boots, trainers, wellies, macs, hats, tops. My husband often complains that the car is too full, but I know from experience that not bringing enough can mean you are caught short if the weather changes.
• I get cold, so layers are key for me. When we head off for the afternoon/ night I always have at least two extra layers with me so that I don’t freeze. Often it will be my pink Colmar jacket or one from Free People tied around my waist and I’ll also be wearing a smaller bright, sparkly top/ jacket.
• Shoes are either my short bright turquoise Lucchese cowboy boots that my husband bought me in Nashville or trainers and obviously wellies if the ground is wet. Thick socks are a must have too as we do so much walking. I think one year we covered 68 miles over four days.
• My bag this year is green suede with tassels and has loads of zips/ compartments… so handy for finding things.
• Jumpsuits are a nightmare – avoid them. If you are like me and wear crossbody bags and tie things round your waist, it can get complicated when you need a pee!
• I will also have my essentials from my friend Tabitha Webb (no one knows better how to embrace the cowboy vibe) these include my chevron sparkly tops, my cowboy boots cardigan, and ‘Cool it Cowboy’ top. Perfect for the day as they are short sleeved but also beautifully soft and warm for the nights.

June 2022 – British fine jeweller Robinson Pelham is preparing to announce a major milestone for 2022: 25 years in business. The brand, founded by three powerhouse female partners, Vanessa Chilton, Zoe Benyon and Kate Pelham Burn, is known for its spirited collection of ultra-wearable and beautifully crafted ready-to-wear fine jewellery, as well as its Couture and Revamp creations designed for VIP clients and jewellery collectors in the know.

The 25th anniversary festivities kick off this month as Robinson Pelham launches several new collections as well as updated colourways and iterations of its best-selling classics. Robinson Pelham will continue the celebrations at its flagship boutique, located on Chelsea’s Elystan Street, with more exciting developments to follow throughout the year.

Some of the brand’s most iconic moments in history include dressing HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and her sister, Pippa Middleton, in Robinson Pelham jewels for their respective weddings, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow making the brand’s iconic Identity gold chain link necklace the star of her neck mess (the multi-hyphenate celebrity is also a fan of the River bracelet). New Collections

Entwined rings are a limited-edition capsule set featuring two beautiful, geometric rings with overlapping surrounds, one in carre diamonds with rainbow sapphires, and the other in carre diamonds and gold, with a central elongated hexagon diamondcenter stone. The surrounds are not the afterthought, they are the main event, and symbolise a union of two – inspiration was sourced following a bespoke engagement design. Prices start from £14,500.

Labyrinth focuses on a journey of positivity, for those starting out in life and aiming high, and also for those who want to celebrate reaching a significant goal in life.

The collection of rings and pendants feature a physical maze whose path and central point is depicted in gemstones. Shapes include hexagon, round and heart, with accents of diamonds, pink sapphires and tsavorites. The rings are curved for maximum comfort and can be worn on the forefinger amongst others; the pendants are flat and sized to be worn between 15-inch and 24-inch. Each piece is engraved with “Find Your Way”, with the ring or pendant acting as a talisman or a guide to help you achieve this. Prices start from £3,770.

Love Is All Around encapsulates Robinson Pelham’s belief that jewellery is all about meaning; hidden or obvious, taken to the literal edge. Its first iteration, “I Love You” is translated as Eye Love U, marquise (eye shaped) heart (love) half-moon (U shaped). Pieces will be made in diamond as well as the brand’s iconic rainbow colouration, and in sizing small and large. Prices start from £4,770.

Zouk takes inspiration from the shapes of round acoustic sound waves and means an exuberant style of Caribbean music with a fast beat. The concentric earrings come in two sizes and can be worn with a central plain or stone set stud or earrings from the Stud Club collection to make them yet another versatile jewel from Robinson Pelham. Available in diamond and yellow gold and also rainbow. Prices start from £3,840.

New additions to existing collections

Vega. It’s the perfect cocktail ring, not too big, not too small but definitely a statement ring that has plenty of attitude. The collection is enhanced with two new rings: Turquoise & Diamond and Gold bobble & Diamond. Prices from £3,840 in 14ct yellow gold or £4,440 in 18ct yellow gold.

Synchronicity, a concept that seamlessly unites two ring components, has been revamped to include two new outer rings (Byzantine and Rainbow Ray) and a new inner ring to tie in with the ‘Love Is All Around’ collection. Each outer can be worn with each inner so that the combinations go on almost endlessly. This ring is about colour, scale and versatility, three of the brand’s favorite mantras. Price from £2,650.

Arena is one of Robinson Pelham’s currently bestselling collections; featuring eyepopping gemstones with contrasting pavé surround, it has been edited to include a simple band of stunning ceramic colour that complements the center stone (morganite, yellow beryl, lilac amethyst and blue topaz). Price from £3,650.

The Muzo Emerald Colombia collection is expanded with the Muzo Arena ring, a juxtaposition of vivid emerald and bright green enamel. The ring is crafted in 18K yellow gold with a surround of pave diamonds. This mix of emerald/diamond and enamel brings an informality to the silhouette, a signature of Robinson Pelham. Price £11,600.

Disco Sister new hoop earrings will be added to the bestselling collection which are the little sisters to the brand’s original Disco hoops. Now seen in blue sapphire and diamond, brown diamond and white diamond, as well as the original colours of pink sapphire, tsavorite, yellow sapphire, diamond in white gold, diamond in yellow gold and the most popular of all – rainbow sapphires and tsavorites with scattered diamonds. Robinson Pelham’s wildly popular Fortune Heart collection has been extended by adding tsavorite, yellow sapphire, blue topaz and ruby to join the existing colours of blue sapphire, pink sapphire, diamond in white gold, diamond in yellow gold and rainbow (set with rainbow sapphires and tsavorites). These hearts are slightly concave and the stones chosen to be slightly darker towards the center to enhance the illusion of depth. Prices from £3,480.

Abacus rondels are versatile and precious little pieces: fully stone-set beads that can be worn as a pendant or bracelet, from hoop earrings or on the Mono bracelets, assorted gemstone accents to Murano glass beads. Prices from £2,420.

Strike are Robinson Pelham’s largest ear statement earrings harking back to the 1980s. They are unapologetic and hugely flattering as the gem set central Strike angles down to create extra cheekbones. Prices from £5,900.

Iconic Identity – Robinson Pelham’s iconic Identity collection has another cool new addition: enamel Identity bars available in four colour
pops: Pale Blue, Pale Pink, Hot Pink and Yellow.

The bar features a discreet hook, enabling the wearer to attach a wider variety of Robinson Pelham pendants or EarWish, ranging from a simple gold heart to a striking turquoise cascade pendant set with four marquise, oval and pear shape turquoise cabochons. 6 October 2021, London: Jeweller Robinson Pelham is officially launching a service to help men buy jewellery for their loved ones which they will cherish for life rather than assign to the ‘return to shop as soon as possible’ category.

Its Jewellery Concierge Service is available via a one-to-one meeting in its Chelsea boutique and also remotely via ‘phone or Zoom.

The service, which launches this month ahead of the busy gifting season, was borne out of something which the jeweller has been doing informally each festive season and on the back of one of its regular client who describes the Robinson Pelham team as his very own ‘jewellery whisperers’ given they expertly guide him each gifting season on the perfect pieces to buy for loved ones.

Zoe Benyon, co-founder, Robinson Pelham, explains more:

Q. One of your regular male customers says you are his very own jewellery whisperer. Can you elaborate?

A. A whisperer is someone who knows so much more than another (in this case, the customer). What they do, and how quickly they do it, seems as if it is a trick or magic. The team at Robinson Pelham has pretty much spent their life in jewellery, their whole life understanding the role jewellery can play in someone’s life and, by virtue, they understand what women want and can help guide the men in their life accordingly without making terrible mistakes at special times and especially at Christmas. Listening is key, understanding reactions, finding out about lifestyle, character and priorities and what’s important to the gift buyer and also wearer is all part of the service. We do it year in, year out, and especially during gifting moments. While it’s lovely to be described as a jewellery whisperer, we think what we offer is more like a jewellery concierge service.

Q. Why do some men get it so wrong?

A. A lot of men just have a different perception of what jewellery SHOULD be. They believe that if it is not diamond and platinum/white gold then it is not the real deal and might be perceived as a secondary present, a bit mean. The world of colour is just a series of unanswerable questions to them, if not diamond then what? If asked what jewellery their partner wears they will probably be able to remember what they have given them rather than what they actually wear.

Q. What’s their typical go to piece of jewellery?

A. Diamond and white gold/platinum earrings or pendant.

Q. What percentage comes back as men don’t know how to buy jewellery their partner will like?

A. Not a vast percentage, maybe five per cent. We don’t have huge returns in January as we really aim to get it right first time.

Q. How do you help them in-store to avoid going down a jewellery black hole?

A. By asking questions about their partner and, if they are a returning customer, looking at what they already have, and any previous returns. By asking about whether they want to give something for everyday or for high days and holidays, by asking about skin and hair colour, anything really to help us imagine the recipient. We also show them other things if we think they are playing too safe, allow them to see other options and we are trained to pick up on their instincts if they see something new, if they like it then why do they like it etc. If they are still stricken with indecision we tell them about stone meanings, we ask about birthstones and we suggest certain wish charms that represent different things, so then there is a whole other language that they might be able to relate to. Our EarWishes all have meanings and that can be a great guide for the customer to choose.

Q. You are introducing Robinson Pelham’s Jewellery Concierge Service this season, what does it  actually entail? Is it virtual or in real life?

A. It can be either but it can involve an infinitesimal bit of homework, what jewellery does their partner wear every day, are they creatures of habit or do they change their jewellery on a regular basis. Once we have established if they change or keep on their jewellery then we know whether someone will delight in something different or prefer something along the same lines that they can just put on and continually wear with what they already have. We can do this over the ‘phone, on Zoom or as a 121 in store.

Q. Do you have any top tips for men?

A. Plenty! Notice things about your partner, what do they wear already? Is there something you have already given their partner that they never wear, don’t repeat that mistake. Do they have multiple piercings? Remember the more expensive option is not necessarily the right one. We specialise in having collections that range from diamond, through each individual colour to rainbow so almost every collection will have something to suit everyone. And that is what we are about, having the right piece to suit the recipient rather than some random piece at the right price point. We never rush the customer unless we can see they need help with a decision. We actively do not want to sell them the
wrong piece as it will come back.

Q. Any anecdotes you can share?

A. The worst shopping: a phone call with a budget and no interest as to what the present is “I don’t care what it looks like just bike it to me”. The best shopping: “Yes sure I can send you a picture of my wife/husband/partner, let me know what you think will suit them”. One husband brought two bangles from stock in diamond/white gold and diamond/rose gold, for a very pale skinned wife who came back in January and returned them. She then chose (from the same collection so her husband wasn’t offended) a diamond and yellow gold bangle and a rainbow sapphire and yellow gold bangle. He now buys every colour for her, all in yellow gold, with total confidence, infinitely more enjoyable for him. He is now verging on a collector. It is much more fun shopping for someone when you know you are going to get it right, we have men in here who’s eyes shine with confidence when they say “it has s got to be green, I know she loves green”.

Elixir pendants are crafted with hand-blown glass vials and filled with oil, allowing the stones to float effortlessly throughout. Brimming with gemstones – diamonds, sapphires, tsavorites and Paraiba tourmalines – the vial is finished with a 9-carat yellow gold cap and chain. The large vials have 25 x 2mm stones and the mini vials have 20 x 1.7mm stones. Robinson Pelham has introduced miniaturised versions of its much-lauded Arcadia line for the pint-size fashionista, Arcadia Mini-Me in rainbow and candy-coloured styles (£400.00 for mini-me version). Arcadia features colourful Murano glass beaded bracelets, set on to a braided 9K yellow gold chain.

Murano in Italy is renowned for its unparalleled quality, exquisite range of colours, and craftsmanship, and each colour is selected by Robinson Pelham to create the full spectrum of this collection; the glass is also fully recyclable. The glass rods are made in Murano and beads are handmade in the UK by traditional lampworking methods.

The team developed the collection as a solution to, and additional styling option for its celebrated and bestselling EarWish collection. Originally concepted during the pandemic, the team recognised a need for ultra-wearable and fun fine jewellery that could be easily gifted or self-purchased.

LONDON January 2021: Robinson Pelham is introducing a bright new collection to its repertoire of bold, colourful and spirited fine jewellery: Arcadia Beads.

Arcadia is a world where anything is possible. The origin of its name is associated with harmony in nature, peace and simplicity.

The debut collection, created by the Robinson Pelham team during lockdown, uses handmade Murano glass beads which have been created exclusively for the jeweller. The collection features colourful necklaces and bracelets which offer an additional styling option for wearing the jeweller’s iconic EarWish collection.

The rainbow coloured beads and hinged links allow the necklace to be worn with any pendant or charm and bring a sense of order to a previous #neckmess.

Sourced from Italian Murano glass rods, the beads are individually handmade in the UK – exclusively for the brand – using traditional lampworking methods. The glass used is fully recyclable and the necklace and bracelet’s 9ct yellow gold chains are certified Fairtrade.

The collection has been in development for nearly a year with each coloured bead meticulously created and hand selected by Robinson Pelham.

The collection features a spectrum of 12 rainbow colours and a second collection featuring 12 pastel colours is set to follow in spring.

The Arcadia necklaces are sold as a complete bundle, including three yellow goldhinged links. This enables the wearer to hang their EarWishes or thread their own pendants onto the gold chain to wear alongside the multi-coloured Arcadia beads,creating infinite possibilities. Available in four lengths: 15”, 17”, 20” or 30”, the beads start at £990.00 and increase to £1615.00.

The Arcadia bracelets start of £490.00 with one Arcadia hinged link. EarWishes and pendants are sold separately.

To mark the launch of Arcadia, Robinson Pelham is partnering with charity Beads of Courage UK, an organisation that donates beads to children who are undergoing medical treatment. Support will be in the form of donations and also
physical beads. In production, each bead that does not get used is donated to the charity, helping children commemorate treatment milestones during their hospital journey by awarding them with a special bead for each procedure, test or surgery they experience.
